Match report

From the club's own report · By Matt Coppinger

QB Alex Cameron (see pic) fired two lightning strikes to WR Ben Smith and Do it All star Daniel Cornibert to bring the Hurricanes back from a 7-0 deficit to win 21-7. Thundering defense from LB Tony Groden and DL Asy Ho kept the Lions ground game in check. Birmingham QB Ben Clark and WR Martin Negus connected once again to record the Lions only score.

Birmingham's second drive saw QB Ben Clark light up the skies with two long passes before he hit Negus on a 37 yard strike. The Hurricanes responded immediately with some tough running from RB's Ostrega and Cornibert. Cornibert also starred on defense as he help shutdown the receiving threat of Negus and the passing of Clark. Cameron once again proved his metal as he hit Cornibert for Hert's first TD.

It wasn't long before the Force 12 defense finally came to life. Neil 'The Exocet' Prothero and Huw Stacey provided pressure whilst Groden and Mark 'The Terminator' King cleaned up the remains of the Birmingham backfield. Both teams then exchanged punts. The Lions return men didn't know what hit them as Prothero and Ho both forced fumbles on special teams plays. The latter set up the Hurricanes second TD pass to wideout Ben Smith.

The Lions were forced to go to the air despite impressive running by Gordon Fraser and a tough performance from FB Adam Lewis. The Lions were missing starter Richard Armonavicios. With Savage, Johnson and Cornibert on form and some excellent sacks by The Exocet, QB Clark soon became frustrated. The Hurricanes took control with the running of Ostrega, Cornibert and Oyewusi. The offensive line had their best day yet with excellent performances from Nick Worsmouth and Grahame Anderson.

Ostrega bowled over in the 4th Quarter to seal an important win for the Hurricanes. Cornibert was named Game MVP with stellar performances on Offense, Defense and Special Teams. The Canes are now at the top of their division and face College Bowl favourites Loughborough in two weeks.
