Match report
From the club's own report · By Christian Steward

The first game of the season saw the two time defending champs against their old arch rivals the UEA Pirates. With a depleted squad due to injuries, the Hurricanes kicked off bringing the defense on first. The whole of the first quarter was riddled with penalties from Herts. However, the defence, starting to find its form and made an early interception by Bert "Primetime" Browne. (We wont mention that he fumbled it after, but luckily for Bert, it was recovered by Neil White). The only score of the quarter came soon after with QB Cameron hitting Dicky Savage for a 9yd Touchdown pass. The second quarter saw the running game of the Hurricanes exploding onto the field. With some key blocks from the offensive line and a few missed tackles from the Pirates, Dawid Ostrega and Bode Oyewusi broke through with some huge plays. But it was Bode who shined through, with a total of 141 yds on 15 carries, he made the only other score in the half, with a 7yd touchdown run.
The second half saw the Herts defence stepping up. After a punt to the 1 yd line the Pirates offence ran the ball at Tony Grodin! However, the running back must have got scared as he ran at this defensive monster, because he fumbled the ball in the end zone. In a spectacular move, Southern All-star Defensive End (also the report writer), Christian Steward recovered the ball scoring his first ever touchdown for the Hurricanes (Much to Neil W's jealousy, sorry Neil, but we cant all score). Richard Savage then kicked the extra point making it 19-0.
The surprise of the day came soon after, with Herts new rookie sensation Dean Mason. On his first carry ever in a game, he ran 40 yds on a dive, for a touchdown. On a day when he also played safety, he managed to rack up a total of 75 yds on just 4 attempts.
The final quarter saw Cameron pass to another rookie, McGloshen for his first ever catch in a game, for a 15 yd touchdown. With Savage adding the extra point, it made the final score 33-0.
The games standout players were Bode Oyewusi, winning offensive Most Valuable Player (MVP). Abe Savvaris had an awesome day at Defensive Tackle, winning him Defensive MVP. Special teams MVP went to Dean Mason and the Game MVP went to Tony "the hit man" Grodin who had an incredible 12 tackles.
With the first game under our belts, the Hurricanes are looking good. Special mentions should go to Jay abbott, who played a great game at defensive end for the first time, (Now Jay, dont go getting any ideas about my starting spot!). Rookies Dean Mason for his great start to the season, Leo Townsend for a great start at DT and Hanni Thayer for his game on the offensive line.
The biggest test of the season is next week, when we travel up to sheep country, to face Cardiff.
