Hurricanes v Oxford Cavaliers

21–0

Hurricanes beat Oxford Cavaliers

Match report

From the club's own report · By Christian Steward

The Hurricanes showed real determination in a tough battle against a strong Oxford side. The Hurricanes got off to a flat start. The defence wasn't clicking and the offence wasn't finishing.

The Cavaliers showed some good offensive moves in the first half forcing the Hurricanes to their own 5 yd line. But the Force XII defence turned up a gear and denied the Cavaliers their first points. The Hurricane offence then fired up and started to move the ball down field. The only score of the half was a field goal from the one yard line. With 15 seconds to go, the half was run out by a Quarterback sack from Huw Stacey.

The second half saw a different Hertfordshire team. Fired up from the coaches, the defence started to land some of the big hits they are known for. The usual suspects of Pete Hogben, Tony 'The Hitman' Groden, Neil White, Christian Steward and New Guy The Law Adam, set the tone. The fourth quarter was dominated by the Canes. Led by Alex Cameron, the offence put a drive together that drove them deep into Cavalier territory. The drive was capped off by Cameron himself running in from 7 yds out. Score 9-0. The next offensive set saw the running backs get to work. The drive was finished off by Dean Mason running in from short yardage. Score 15-0.

The next Cavalier opening play was intercepted by Tony Groden and run all the way back to the 1 yd line. (Yes Tony, you were robbed). Dawid 'The Believer' Ostrega rumbled in for the touchdown making the final score 21-0.

Special mentions should go to all the players playing both offence and defence. (I got a new respect for these guys!). These include Renshaw, Groden, Stacey, Mason, Hogbin, Savage, Steward and Butler.

The game was a success giving the Hurricanes their third divisional championship in a row. However, the Canes need to pick up there performance if they are to three-peat this year. The first half was poor. The second half was like a different team. 18 points in the 4th Quarter shows the power the Hurricanes have. Old rivals UEA are next in the final match of the season.
