Hurricanes v UEA Pirates

3–0

Hurricanes beat UEA Pirates

Match report

From the club's own report · By Christian Steward

The Hurricanes provided their worse performance of the season against their old enemies the UEA Pirates. The day started off with the coach getting a puncture on the way to Norwich. However, with a couple of phone calls to Christian Steward and Tony Groden from the stranded team, they soon jumped into action. A few of the UEA guys kindly volunteered and we all sped off down the A11 for about 5 minutes in a convoy of 7 cars. When we all arrived, not surprisingly Roli Saavaris had already ordered a taxi and was going to arrive in style. We loaded up the rest of the team and were on our way.

The opening kick off reflected the whole day and was fumbled by Herts at the 35 yd line. The defense came on and forced the punt. The first half was dominated by the defense of both teams. The Canes stood strong on many occasions, as they watched the offence unable to move the ball with any dominance. The UEA defense did themselves proud as they shut down the Herts machine. The score at the end of the half 0-0.

The second half saw the Canes come out with a new fire. The hitting intensity increased as it dawned on the Canes that they had a real game to play. However the offence just couldn't finish off the drives. The final quarter saw the only points in the game. A 10 yd field goal by Savage (Ostrega long snapper I had to mention him somewhere), clinched the game for Herts. Final score 3-0. The game was a low in the Canes season and there is lots of work to be done before the play-offs.

If anything good can be said about this game, its that we can win even when we play our worse.

Special mentions should go to Christian Steward for an excellent day on defense (Even if I do say so myself), with 3 sacks, 3 tackles and 3 assists, winning defensive MVP. Abbe Saavaris with a superb day also on defense, landing some huge hits and key tackles, winning him game MVP. Karl McGlashon for his game on offense, showed some great moves and determination to win him offensive MVP.

I suppose the only other mention should go to Neil White who screamed like a woman when he heard his spine click ( compressed Vertebrae I'll have you know - Neil). His back is now knackered and he assures me Sunday night was one of agony, (The girlfriend and her massages! The whole team knows about them Neil!) But he should also get the award for the best elephant man lookalike after a game. (Never seen bruises like them)

The Hurricanes now have a week off to take a look at the situation. They must pick themselves up and build up steam all the way to the final.
