Match report
From the club's own report · By Christian Steward
The Canes eliminated the Cardiff Cobras on Sunday in a great rematch to progress to the Southern Conference final. The Cobras were the only team to beat the Canes in 3 and a half years, earlier this season.
The game started off with the Hurricanes receiving the ball, after this point the game became a bit of a blur for me. The offence came on and kicked the game into action. Herts were unable to move the ball early on in the game, and when running back Bode Oyewusi left the game injured with Neil White also out injured, things started to look bleak. But Adam The Law Seoudy stepped up and filled the position well.
The Canes defense was in blistering form in the first half, the defensive line giving the Cobras quarterback a hard lesson in picking himself off the floor. The linebacker crew were also in good form landing some great hits and shutting the superb running of RB number 21 down, as best they could. The Force XII was back, and so was Mark King who opened up his season with a sack (Beautifully set up by me) and 4 tackles.
The biggest boost of the day for the Hurricanes was the return of Wide Receivers Ben Smith and Clive Polumbo, recently returned from the Scottish Claymores trials. The first touchdown was to Clive from QB Alex Cameron making the score 6-0. The second came not long after with a juggled catch from 2nd Year Hurricane Ben Smith, score 12-0. The Canes defence came on again and dominated the field and the Canes were soon back in possession. The next touchdown again came from a pass from Cameron to Polumbo. Richard Savage managed to add the extra point making the score 19-0.
The second half saw the Cobras really dig in deep. With several key players out injured they put together a valiant drive on the back of great work by their RB number 21. The drive was awarded by a touchdown, the two point conversion failed when Huw Stacey sacked the quarterback. The Final score 19-6.
The Hurricanes played back to their best after a couple of disappointing games. The Force XII defense was ruthless and the offense was clicking once again. Things are looking good as Herts head towards another play-off battle with Oxford for the Southern Title.
